On March 11, the Tohoku and Kanto region was hit by the largest
earthquake in record history. Several hundred thousands of people
were affected and many lives were lost, many are still missing.
Many survivors have no choice but to stay in evacuation centers.
After the quake, I was shocked by the scale of the damage as it unfolds,
and felt irritated for not being able to do anything, despite feeling so
much fear and sorrow.I contemplated on what I can do as a professional
in the music industry and as a DJ, and reached a conclusion that hosting
a music event and sharing music with everybody while sending our best
to the affected area would be the most I could do now.
After I came up with the idea, I called all the DJs listed in my phonebook,
and asked for their support. I gave up on contacting people who were out
of town, and people I couldn’t reach because they’d changed their number.
The road to recovery will be long. With this event as the first step, I hope to
continue hosting events in the future also.
As energy shortage is currently a problem, I’ll be sure to cut back on energy
consumption. If the people who come to the event turn out all the lights at
home, that would help alleviate the burden.
Let’s all pray for an early recovery by listening to music and talking to each
other. The entrance fee for the event will be donated to the affected area
through the Japanese Red Cross.
I hope for your kind support.
